A social gathering associated with death. A dead yard normally takes place at the house of the deceased (without the body present).

English: Are you going to Marsha’s wake tonight?

Patois: Shi seh shi a go maggle fi di company pan Mondeh
English: She said she’s going to model for the company on Mondeh
Slang term used to refer to when a Jamaican who grew up speaking heavy patois tries to talk in an American/British accent but ends up being a silly-sounding poor attempt because it is not natural. Jamaicans who travel aboard for 3 weeks or less and return with an accent are normally teased with having a twang.

English: Mike went on an one-day round trip to America and came back with an accent
