Jamaica's most extensive mountain range, the Blue Mountains, is a sight to behold. Much of it is forest-clad, and it appears blue from a distance. The mountains dominate the eastern parishes of Portland, St. Thomas, and St. Andrew, forming the interior of these parishes. Blue Mountain Peak, at 2,255.8 m (7,402 ft), is the highest peak in Jamaica. The peak itself is one of a series of peaks over 1,829 m (6,000 ft) high which rise swiftly from the coast, providing a spectacular backdrop for beaches and plains.
