Brown's Town is a large inland town in St. Ann, Jamaica, named after its founder, Hamilton Brown. Brown was an Irishman who started out humbly as an estate book-keeper and rose to become a large landowner in St. Ann. He represented the parish in the House of Assembly for 22 years and also built the original St. Mark's Church (Anglican). He died in 1843 and is buried in the churchyard.

The breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) is a large tree that grows up to 70 feet tall and is native to the South Pacific Islands. It was introduced to Jamaica in 1793 by Captain William Bligh of the HMS Bounty. Bligh had been sent on a mission by the British government to bring breadfruit plants to the Caribbean in order to provide a cheap and nutritious food source for the enslaved Africans who worked on the sugar plantations.
