Bruckins is a traditional Jamaican dance that originated in the celebrations held to mark the anniversary of the emancipation of the slaves on August 1, 1838. It is a competitive dance performed by two rival groups of dancers, a "red" set and a "blue" set, each led by a king and queen and accompanied by other characters such as a "queen granddaughter," princesses, captains, and soldiers.
