Annotto Bay is a town in St. Mary, Jamaica, that was once an active port on the north side of the island. It is named after the anatto tree, which was probably once common in the area or shipped from there. The Spanish settlement of Mellila, mentioned in early 16th century Spanish Jamaica, was probably located near present-day Annotto Bay. The most interesting structure in the town is the Baptist chapel on the main street, which was built in 1894 and is listed as a national monument. The chapel was designed by the minister in charge, Rev. Charles Barron of Scotland.
