A reggae/dancehall term used to refer to the instrumental component of a song. Thus a reggae/dancehall song consists of riddim plus the vocal song by the DJ/singer. A single riddim is normally used by multiple artists to record their tracks. A few popular reggae riddims include “Sleng Teng Riddim”, “Fever Pitch Riddim” and “Benz and Bimma”

Upset
To be angry or upset.
Patois: John vex becaw him get lak out
English: John is upset because he got locked out.
Throw
Patois: Sarah vex wid mi an fling mi iphone outta di winda
English: Sarah got upset with me and threw my iphone out the window
My youth
A slang expression used to address a young person. It is used interchangeably with 'my yute.'
Patois: Mi yute, weh mi kyar key deh
English: Young blood, where are my car keys?

Patois: Wah mek im suh brite, him waah move inna mi house widout permission
English: Why is he so rude? He wanted to move into my house without permission.
