A popular type of drum set playing used on countless reggae records. This style was popularized by Carlton Barrett and is characterized by which the bass drum is used only on the 3rd beat of every four, while beat one is left empty. Thus, the expected hit on beat one is "dropped," creating the one-drop effect. Examples of songs using the one drop include "No Woman, No Cry" and "One Drop" by Bob Marley and The Wailers.
